Yure
Kengo Kuma, 2015
Solid larch wood and cloth
Made of an assembly of wooden beams, Yure’s structure creates flexible and versatile interior spaces on several levels. “Yure, from the Japanese word for trembling, is a nomad habitat in movement. It sways like trees balancing their branches and leaves in the wind.” (Kengo Kuma) This cabane illustrates Kuma’s vision, in opposition to the 20th century’s monumental architecture. He decries the almost systematic use of concrete in buildings, giving birth to glum cities, breaking away from individuals. With yure, he returns to an in situ and sustainable form of architecture, in harmony and contact with nature.
