Yourte
The visible structure of the Yourte, made of a mesh of iron branches holding a delicate assembly of glass plates, is similar to a crinoline. The leaf shape of these plates is obtained by thermoforming, which consists of taking a plate of material, softening it with heat and then shaping it in a mold. Cooling down, the glass will conserve the pattern it was assigned. Here Serge Mansau chose very fine grooves and light warping to imitate a vegetal texture. The Yourte could thus be an ice film, still randomly standing by some accident of nature.
A French sculptor and designer, Serge Mansau is known and celebrated for his creations in the luxury sector. He began his work alongside Helena Rubinstein in the 1960s. He created numerous perfume bottles for great houses such as Dior, Hermès or Givenchy.
