La Savonnette (The small soap bar)
Bronze, 150 x 175 x 103 cm, 1944.
In the gardens, opposite the yews
This work marks the beginning of the anti-sculpture concept.
It is inspired by the shape of a bar of soap, a form that resists traditional sculptural three-dimensionality.
The imposing horizontality of this female nude is disrupted by a fragmentation of the volumes in the legs.
