Tadashi Kawamata
Paint, wood, pencil on paper
Listen

In this series of works, Tadashi Kawamata innovates by adding wood, his favorite material, and small touches of pastel colours. Creating “building sketches”, he creates in a small frame buildings reminiscent of his in-situ installations, scaling down his real-size creations. If he goes from 3D architecture to architectural blueprints, these delicate constructions of wooden parts still harmoniously integrate with the plank constructions perched in the trees : each to its own scale, Kawamata’s work provide us with this uncanny duality of fragility and immutability.

Renowned on the international scene, Tadashi Kawamata is a Japanese plastic artist whose favorite material is wood. His in situ interventions provoke a deep reflection on the types of environments that we create for ourselves.
