Sand Castle For Eternity and Beyond, Kengo Kuma revisited

This model is a reinterpretation of Kengo Juma’s Owan cabane. The island evokes flight and the search of elsewhere. The island is a recurring theme for the two artists and is representative of the fantasy of modern society in the face of the imperatives of work and productivity. Everything is contrasted in this art piece : the aluminum netting, a product of human technique, is confronted to the wild island, virgin of any human intervention. The title itself brings up duality by opposing the ephemeral nature of a sand castle with that of “infinity and beyond”.

Karim and Luc Berchiche are two brothers based in Paris. Their sculptures evoke escape and dream, and incite a reflection on the shortness of life. The island is their favorite motif, presented as a universe in which modern man tries to find his place.
