Tadashi Kawamata, 2008
Wood
Listen

The lower courtyard, which initially housed the castle’s stables and reserves, is now home to an installation by artist and urban planner Tadashi Kawamata. This in situ cabane of the Japanese artist is one of his numerous creations exposed around the world, many of which are reminiscent of our childhood's constructions. Kawamata’s ambition is to create ephemeral works that alter our perception of a location. Looking like a suspended nest, his cabanes bring new momentum to the location, via their imbalance and apparent fragility. Due to its ease of use and global availability, Tadashi Kawamata favors the use of wood in his work, and often uses salvage wood.
