Cutting Edge, Kengo Kuma revisited
La Fratrie, 2017
Mixed technique
In this work, the Berchiche brothers revisit a construction by French architect Rudy Ricciotti, known as the author of numerous buildings in France such as the MuCEM in Marseille or the Islamic Arts department of the Louvres museum. La Fratrie reinterprets in smaller scale the house-gallery built by Ricciotti for Philippe Gravier. It is besieged by invasive wilderness, entirely covering the building and transforming it into a cave of sorts. The themes of alienation and isolation are explored in this construction on a floating island that is seemingly in jeopardy, and devoid of any human life.
